Breakdancing

About

Competitive breakdancing is a dynamic dance sport where athletes, known as b-boys and b-girls, combine athleticism, creativity, and musicality to perform intricate routines and battle opponents. Competitors are judged on elements such as technique, originality, execution, and interpretation of music in high-energy, head-to-head formats. Blending sport, art, and culture, breaking pushes physical limits while allowing athletes to express a unique personal style.

Why this sport?

Breakdancing presents a compelling opportunity due to its global recognition (with its Olympic debut in Paris 2024), cultural credibility, and proven event formats, making it one of the more established disciplines within emerging sports. Its strong roots in music, fashion, and street culture create natural crossover appeal, attracting diverse and highly engaged audiences both live and online.

While more developed than many adjacent disciplines, breaking still offers room for innovation; providing partners with the chance to build on an existing foundation while driving new formats, audiences, and experiences. Its alignment with creativity, performance, and athleticism makes it a powerful platform for authentic brand storytelling and community-led activation.

Our goal

Our visions with breakdancing would be to further elevate and professionalise an already established global scene, enhancing competition structures, athlete support, and visibility. A key goal is to expand accessibility and maintain growth, ensuring new participants can enter the culture while experienced athletes continue to progress at the highest level.

At the same time, it is essential to preserve the authenticity and cultural foundations that define breakdancing, ensuring its evolution remains true to its roots. Within a broader ecosystem alongside sports like freestyle football and calisthenics, the vision is to foster interconnected communities and shared opportunities and competitions (read more about IMPCT Nexus), while allowing each discipline to retain its unique identity, ultimately strengthening the wider landscape of emerging sport.
